What do you think of this Story Beginning?

I agree on some things, as far as the simplicity. I think that you put marvelous detail and descriptions that really put us in the moment and time, but more explanation on some of the phrases would be nice. Like the braided jagged edge. I really loved it, you are an excellent writer as far as I can tell. Creativity is awesome as well. Keep it up, if you got it published I'd read. xD
