What was the TV series called, (circa-late 80s?) about a salvage company who built a spacecraft.?

The 'hero' was either an ex-astronault or ex-pilot.They used the craft to go up into space and salvage 'space junk' left behind by space programmes. I want to know the name of the series, and who was in it please. I'm pretty sure the actors were fairly well known at the time.
