Why do men grow dreads??

Why would any man grow dreads? It looks like a homeless girl hairdo. Also why do black men grow it? That hairstyle for them is like a witch doctor hair style.. It just looks really bad and I dont understand why in any professional sports where players get paid millions to go out and entertain peeps and look trashy? Does any girl like a guy with dreads whos not a rockstar or witch doctor??
