American and over 50 wants to move to Australia?

My wife and I think the weather, oceans, people and predominantly English speaking country would be a tremendous place to settle down. However, since we are halfway across the globe and basically clueless about your land, any information about where to live,how much money one needs and basic living information would be appreciated.
